Cavalcade Of Creatures

um, you might want to not click on image to enlarge.
If you've been following this little blob for the past few decades you'll know I'm an animal lover- specifically wildlife and have spent a good deal of of my time in my young life endeavoring to learn more about our friends of the woodland realm. I've brought you pics of snakes, toads and terrapins saved from the ravages of the lawnmower and baby chicks dealt a harsh blow by gravity. Sadly, all did not end well for Bambi as he negotiated the highways and byways of our fruited plain. Although I must say I don't know who was the goofiest: the guy who cut the head off a 40 lb. deer or the sobbing homeless man who said,"Can you please call animal control or the police or somebody? A black pickup hit her and a Red Tuareg stopped and cut her head off. It just happened about 30 minutes ago."

My queen- Hey, yeah I think he was done for on impact. How are you?

Ms Toasty- Hi thanks for your comments earlier. I assume it was meant to be that type of trophy but, awfully small and done improperly for that. Your last question is the one that compels me: were they ready and prepared to chop the heads off deer or maybe the ultimate game?

Muwahahaha...

Thanks for stopping by my blog! And yes, it did rain here last night, a LOT! Even wind damage and hail in Nashville, so I guess that ring means something, huh?

That is so gross. I don't how people can do stuff like that. I am an animal lover big time, and it just makes me sick.

I hunt, but hate to see animals suffer. Even though I'm only a smidgen Native-American, my hunting ethics are similar to the NA reverence for the wildlife.

Last weekend, my teenaged son was out riding his bike about 9:30p with a friend. He called me about a half mile from our house, saying there was a possum that'd been hit by a car lying in the road, and wondering if he could do anything.

I advised him to call the non-emerg police number and ask if they could come give it a mercy killing (we live in a Tarrant County suburb).

About ten minutes passed, so I got in the car and drove to where he'd told me he was. Sure enough, the animal had a mortal wound, but was still breathing laboriously. About every five or six minutes, it would attempt to move, but because of a crushed shoulder (& maybe skull) could only move slowly in a 24" circle (bloody tracks defined its range of movement). Passing cars were diverting into the oncoming lane to dodge the animal.

Thought of going back to the house and getting a .22 with ratshot or a .22 short to end the possum's misery, but was concerned with ricochet off the asphalt, as well as legal issues.

After another 20 minutes, an officer arrived. Summing up the situation, he said he couldn't do anything, and Animal Control wouldn't be on duty until the next morning or maybe Monday. He called his Sergeant, who suggested moving the animal from the roadway with a shovel (which of course he didn't have).

So, I drove home and got a shovel (and the .22). Though I don't have Chuppi's experience with Death, our consensus was that the immobilized critter could very well have suffered another three or four hours. I moved the possum to the bar ditch, and asked the officer if I could deliver a grace shot, since it was now on soft ground.

He couldn't allow it.

So, I asked my son and his friend what they thought of my using the shovel to similar effect as in the deer photo. They agreed it would be best.

A possum's spine is very tough - despite 200# of force, I wasn't able to sever it with the shovel, but was able to use the tool to effect asphyxiation to end its agony. It wasn't a pleasant feeling, but I think it was the right thing.

The next day, we drove by the place, looking to see if A/C had removed the carrion from the bar ditch. A/C hadn't, but a turkey buzzard had moved it about 10 feet away, and was enjoying lunch.

My son remarked that the circle of life goes on.

(I hope this story wasn't too graphic, but I was very proud of my son's concern for the animal. I think most would've dismissed it as 'just a possum'.)

Even in the most sexually liberated and self-satisfied of nations, many people still yearn to burn more, to feel ready for bedding no matter what the clock says and to desire their partner of 23 years as much as they did when their love was brand new.
The market is saturated with books on how to revive a flagging libido or spice up monotonous sex, and sex therapists say “lack of desire” is one of the most common complaints they hear from patients, particularly women.
