It's unlikely you've seen one of these, it's a hammer that at one time was used on airliners to smash ice for drinks before ice machines would have been common. It's easy to imagine why you would want to have one of these instead of an ice pick on a bumpy flight. A good friend who was a flight engineer for Southwest when I was in college gave this to me. TWA ceased operations in 2001 when it was aquired by American Airlines.
