Americana

Meet Mike the headless chicken. He was destined for the table until his owner thought a headless chicken that walked, crowed and did other chickenly things while headless was far more interesting than one that was simply delicious. Apparently headless chickens are also far more lucrative as he earned the equivalent of 50,000 dollars per month being viewed for 25 cents a person in the late 1940s. He lived this way for 18 months being fed a mixture of grain and milk from a syringe and died in a motel in Phoenix.

"When used to his new and unusual center of mass Mike could easily get himself to the highest perches without falling. His crowing, though, was less impressive and consisted of a gurgling sound made in his throat, leaving him unable to crow at dawn. Mike also spent his time preening and attempting to peck for food with his neck.
Being headless did not keep Mike from putting on weight; at the time of his partial beheading he weighed two and a half pounds, but at the time of his death this had increased to nearly eight pounds." Wikipedia

There was even a childrens chant associated with Mike,"Mike, Mike, where's your head? Even without it, you're not dead!"

Bonus: Although He travelled with a head as part of the display it wasn't his real head as it was eaten by a cat shortly after being separated from his body.
