Monday's Missives

• Yesterday I thought about somebody I had not heard from in a long time and today out of the blue they left a comment here.
• Also yesterday I was reminded of the fact I could with just a few more credits have a couple of different associates degrees. Predictably, this morning there were 3 different ads or fake news ads related to higher education or online degrees on my browser. 
• The Internet is listening- always listening. 

  

  Honestly I cannot imagine why anybody would think anybody else would care about their corgi or stick figure family.

• About the cheapest you can buy K Cups is 50 cents a piece. Drink 2 and you could have had better coffee at McDonald's. Drink 3 and you're in the hole.
• I have got to make reservations for vacation.
• In another life for vacation we did not make reservations anywhere for 2 of the nights- we would be gone; trusting to God and luck for a place to crash. One hot, miserable night we camped. On the second we stayed in a dangerous looking motel that smelled of stale urine and despair. Honestly, the woman? behind the counter at first told us she had nothing to rent. She then came out and told us to come back as she, might have something... I think she at first thought we were narcs or at least rubes whose inevitable robbery and murders would get her dump shut down.
• Good times.

  

  I have drunk a lot of coffee in my life but I have never before seen unground beans in factory ground coffee.

Thursday's Thoughts

• As a guy in a female dominated occupation I have to put up with subtle forms of what would be called sexual harassment if I were a female.
• It might be hard to believe but no lie-I honestly had a long ago female supervisor hint that things could go better for me if I put out to her.
• So what got this subject started? Where I work a girl and I were occupying the same space between filing cabinets. I was turned away from her when she entered the area. I knew I was the one in the way so with my back still turned to her I sidestepped moving accidentally directly in her way. She reflexively put her hand out to let me know she was there by touching my side. When she did so she touched my little muffin top. I made a joke about it. She said, That's okay- I like a guy with a little curves!
• It was okay. It was really okay. It was funny and mildly flattering. I laughed. She laughed. People who overheard it laughed. I have to ask though- what if the shoe was on the other foot? There is no chance I would have gotten out of it without an official counseling statement in my file and there's every chance I could have lost my job over it.

  

  When I was a boy I was fascinated with crushed cars being hauled on a flatbed. I would watch mesmerized and beg my dad to slow down or catch up to them so I could gawk.

• Since buying my phone I have not touched my relatively expensive snapshot camera, my very expensive SLR camera or my tablet and my expensive, powerful laptop has only been used to watch movies and store pictures.
• There are few things worse in this world to me than having to stay in a job that I literally hate.
  
• Recently someone took note of a self portrait sketch I did of myself that I have on my bulletin board in my office. She asked about it and asked if I had done it myself. I told her that I had and then I asked her if she had a similar  artistic outlet while just knowing that she did. She lied and said that she did not draw, that she didn't have much talent in general and didn't do anything like that etc. Later I found out that she was actually pretty good at drawing- good enough that she would get asked to do things for people- to make sketches for presentations, flyers and invitations and so on.
• I know that people lie. I know they will lie when the truth would fit better but I simply cannot comprehend the purpose of her lying like that.

  

  Sweet tea I bought impulsively. It has been way less than 24 hours and I'm about to pour another large glass...

• The use of someone and somebody in a sentence by me is always and absolutely a shot in the dark (including the above).
• For that matter- now that I look back at it- I think I got it wrong up there.

Wednesday's Digressions

• At work yesterday I had two nursing buddies rolling on the floor in laughter- at a fart joke. 

  

  What 14 buck got me at Bakers Ribs the last time I went. The emphasis is on last time in case you were wondering. Phweeew it was bad. I ate there in the past at least 4 times a month and did so for years.

• People often think of hospitals and health care facilities in general as being super clean- sterile even. You should know the opposite is true- bacteria and virus are by nature highly concentrated there. Hospitals are where you go to get sick- if not already.
• 
• Yesterday I had a black and Bleu burger with bacon at Shaws on Magnolia. Have them put the Bleu cheese on the side when you try it though.
• John Oliver on dialysis in the US.
• Paul's on Hemphill has changed their fries to a smaller, crispier McDonald'sesque type and they are fantastic. Previously their fries were not terrible but they could be a little doughie in the middle.
• Slow clap starting for you now Paul. Bravo my friend bravo...

  

  Sir, are you aware you are a deer?
   Bwhaaat...?! Me?!  This may be a picture of a deer but it and my little joke are a better picture of our hive mind created or at least affirmed by the Internet. I have never seen it but there is a 100% chance somebody has created a meme based on that picture using a similar caption. If they wanted to be snotty they could sue me I guess but there is a zero percent chance I have ever seen the meme.

Friday's Dispatch

In case you are wondering why there are bits of paper towel behind that switch plate they get stuck there when people use the towel they dried their hands with to swat the switch as they walk out.

• The grounds and buildings of the first college I attended look nothing like they did when I attended 30 years ago. Yes, I know things change- especially over 30 years of time but I am not sure I would recognize it at all were I transported there.
• Holy smokes- it now costs over 20,000 dollars a year to go to school there.
• That is psychotic.

• It was chilly yesterday morning.
• It is 0159 on 04/24/2017.
• I just looked up an old college friend who has a condition that can lead to a drastically shortened lifespan. She is still alive evidently. 
• Good. That is a relief- it truly is a relief.

• Zac crashed in the tub tonight (05/06/2017). When I went in to check on him the only thing out of the water was one eye, his nose and mouth.
• Mildly terrifying.
• My dad was known as being a bad man- he was no one to be messed with. Something most people would not have known about him though - he liked to crochet and do needlepoint. For real- I know he did the rote Home Sweet Home needlepoint that has been a mainstay for 200 years but he also did a black and white cat crochet project. It had a red collar or bow and bell around its neck.
  
• Wednesday (today is 05/08/2017) my order of Ethiopian coffee should arrive. It is time to see what the fuss is all about.
• Two different times now I have completely deleted a string of bullet point posts trying to add a caption to a photo here.
• A few months ago we had to reschedule some patients as our doc. was out sick. A few people (especially some foreign born) were shocked and literally said something like, But he can't be sick- he is a doctor!
