Monday's Missives

Huh? Nothing wrong with this picture, but there's not even a chance I intentionally downloaded it to my my computer- something to think about (to me anyway) when someone is accused of having illegal pictures on their machine.

  • During The War I carried a loose 5.56 round in my my pocket as mostly a gesture, but ostensibly to blow my brains out with to prevent capture if it came down to it. By the time I came home it was polished- I mean shiny bright from riding in my cargo pocket.

  • I took a friend to Baker's Ribs in Weatherford last night and still feel woozy from protein, carbohydrate, fat, lemonade and awesomeness overload. Honestly- I did not even sleep well and had nightmares.

  • A recurring dream: A house near the Grasslands North of Decatur- I stop thinking it's a friends. Hubby comes home thinking I'm up to no good and starts loading a muzzle loader. I being the brave commando I am run for dear life. There's a fence I jump which leads to another and another all getting higher until I jump from one to another as they get higher and higher. His muzzleoader is actually some sort of Gatlin Gun and as he turns the crank I hear the rounds buzzing by my head. The summer air is so hot I can't breath and I get to my truck, (always a 1979 Ford- a different color every time) about the time I'm ready to give up and let him kill me. And then I wake up.

  • I've had that ridiculous dream every few years for as long as I can remember in my adult life.

  • Woke up this morning with Pearl Jams Breathe on mind.

  • Afghanistan was lost the minute we thought it winnable.

  • Zac is now demanding he be called Zachary. He's 3 and already redefining himself- I'm bracing for a difficult next 15 years.

  • His life count for fish count stands at 7 now.

Friday's Dispatch

Aye carumba! I don't even know where to start.

  • A pretty song- Soul II Soul Back To Life. I had really forgotten how good a song it is.

  • Yesterday Zac watched a red eared slider turtle lay her eggs. It kind of messed with his mind a little. "Did she come out of that hole dug behind her? he asked. No baby, she dug the hole to put her eggs in- it's how she has babies. Where are her eggs then? he asked after looking around and not seeing any eggs. They're inside her body and she will push them out into the hole. You mean babies are going to come popping out- like poop? No, she'll push the eggs out and then like a chicken comes out of the egg, baby turtles will break out later. Chickens?!? No..."

  • I had two great posts written when Blogger crashed and lost them.

  • I always draw up a little when a male nurse has been specifically requested when I get a case offered. It could be as simple as an intake nurse asking if the patient or family has a preference or something deeper.

  • It's usually something deeper. It may be a bad area, a large patient, an imbalanced male who will attempt to manipulate a female nurse, a male patient with a crazy jealous wife or a possibly violent patient. Sometimes even my agency won't really know the reason.

  • Recently, a nurse who I did not know left a message wanting to talk about the patient I was assigned that night. OK, this could be as simple as he taking a special interest in the case and wanting to share information that will help in the patients care, requesting some TLC etc. or he may be wanting to give me some information that will keep my pretty face intact. I could tell the way he inhaled deeply when I called back it was the latter. "I wanted to let you know that the family called me yesterday and asked me to get there as soon as possible. I lost them on the phone so couldn't get details, but when I walked in he had an iron swinging it by the cord over his head trying to whack his wife, brother in law and a neighbor who came to help. He said they were devils who'd already robbed him and were trying to kill him" What could I say? "Sounds awesome!"

  • Have a great weekend.

Funny Foible

From a German newscast. They intended to put up a logo for SEAL Team 6, but found a fan made logo online from an episode of Deep Space Nine- note the phaser, Klingon swords and KLINGON skull! The news guy even commented to the effect,"They don't have a skull in their logo for nothing!" after talking about the mission that killed OBL.

Tuesday's Middle Of The Night Missives

Tacky, but funny- click to enlarge so you can read the text.

  • Normally I don't care about entertainers or politicians personal lives too much, but it kind of took me back when I read about Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver separating.

  • Chili's has for the price consistently good quality ribs. The big pickle place, the big pepper place and the big cherry place- what my 3 children each called Chili's when they would ask to go through the years.

  • I am awake at 2 AM because I made a piggy of myself there last night- I don't do that often anymore.

  • I am miserable.

  • Really- I mean I am in agony.

  • I don't touch wine with a 10 foot pole, but I love UB40's Red Red Wine and have had it stuck in my mind for hours.

  • It's catchy.

  • I bet you didn't know that Neil Diamond wrote and performed it originally though.

  • I've always liked UB40's cover of Can't Help Falling In Love as well.

  • Zac went swimming yesterday after we played Frisbee. 7 or 8 of the lovelies were already out working on their tans and if I'm lying I'm dying- Zac was hooking the Frisbee toward the fence so he could go over and talk to them.

  • I'm bad: yesterday morning my friend in the restaurant sat next to me and turned her back to me meaning she wanted her back scratched and rubbed. How's that? I asked after a few minutes. It's good and you know it- don't stop. she said as she leaned her head forward for me to work on her neck. Oh man, you are something else she said. After a few more minutes she said,OK, I'm ready to work. What can I get you started with? As she asked I was sticking my tongue into the whipped cream on top of my coffee. That doesn't look like a starter- it looks like a happy ending! she said. Well, OK if that's where we're going with this- to get things started we'll put a spoonful of this in your belly button and go from there I said. We both busted up laughing. Then she said, I'm getting away from you, before I get in trouble!

  • It was then I looked down and happened to notice the line was still open on my phone from speaking to my former spouse earlier.

  • Good night world.

Monday's Missives

  • I think to find Bill Hicks funny you'd have to think of him as a sort of motivational speaker first who uses humor to get his message across. Also, if you are a pretty self aware person without an axe to grind, who thinks for themselves (which he for lack of a better term preaches) watching his act can actually be tiresome.

  • An odd, unconnected thought just crossed my mind. I'd really like to go back to Germany. Although plenty of people speak English and you could get by just fine without speaking German I would have to get my head wrapped around it and learn enough to get around again and that gives me a headache thinking about it- although it's an easy langauage for an English speaker to learn.

  • Do we program little kids to like dinosaurs? We must, otherwise it's inborn- their love for those big scaly creatures is too pervasive.

  • I watched my first son be born by c section.

  • A funny, gross, profane movie: Shakes The Clown.

  • Last year I've heard my apartment closed the pool way early- like July 5 or something ridiculous. There was such an uproar they kept it open all year this year.

Good Night World

Zac and I just watched Dread Zeppelin doing Immigrant Song while singing along. We are going to watch an episode of I Dream Of Jeannie and crash. I don't think life could get any better unless we were doing it on a big boat somewhere.
Good night world- you big scary crazy place.
