Ages Old Draft Clean Up Post

Grandfather and grandmother. Maybe the reason blues music is so ingrained in my soul- honestly. I mean really, if just looking at them doesn't just put a beat-down on you, I don't know what would. She looks like a harder, more beaten version of my mom and I would know those hands anywhere.

  • Occasionally in my hospice nursing when I'm relieving another nurse she'll say something like, Oh, I've heard so much about you! and want to draw out report and visit and obviously try to figure out what makes me tick.
  • I don't fall for it anymore- they are trying to steal my Mojo.
  • Hospice nursing is the best nursing ever for the simple, relatively ego less exchange of teaching between nurses to improve patient care- hands down, no discussion. It's one aspect that would make it hard to leave if the time came.
  • The adolescent deer is still living near the pond. If the water holds I will put a mineral block out to keep it going until the acorns and pecans make. There is a little browse and will be plenty if we get a little more rain which will come. Then we'll get sick of all the rain...
  • It's the reddest white tail deer I've ever seen with an unbelievably long tail.
  • My teenager bumped the thermostat down so low the other night Zac woke up crying and felt cold as a dead person. My back was aching and I had to get in the tub to get the knots out.
  • I still love Pinky And The Brain and The Animaniacs.
  • Remember Rudedog?
  • The other day it crossed my mind and 15 minutes later on the way to town saw a pickup I'd never seen before with RUDEDOG in vinyl letters across the back window.
  • In nursing homes they always have Bob Hope, Randolph Scott, Laurel and Hardy, Abbott and Costello and John Wayne movies with titles like Road To Bali, Rio Bravo, Stagecoach, The Fighting Seabees and Africa Screams always among them. Twenty to Forty years from now it will be Pretty In Pink, Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Ferris Buellers Day Off, Red Dawn and Young Guns.
  • Interesting to come back and see this one- I haven't done hospice in years. We'll see where we are at when it publishes.

Friday's Dispatch

Since I was a boy I thought motorcycles with sidecars were cool.  There was actually a sport where bikes with a sidecar raced on paved and dirt surfaces. The outrigger guy was essentially skilled ballast but I thought them cooler than cool and thought it one of the best jobs in the world (next to a garbageman).

  • I dislike use of the word hate so much so that when I do, it really gets the attention of people who know me and they get concerned over whatever it is I've applied it towards. I've said, I hate to use the word hate.
  • Explaining a patients last moments the other day I indicated to her daughter on the phone how at peace her mother seemed and my belief she was pain and anxiety free and then said, Then she just stopped and she was gone
  • The more I learn about hospice nursing the more I'm inclined to believe those people will go when they are ready. A stubborn patient can fool the most experienced nurse when they give an opinion for how long the patient has left.
  • I tell families when I think the time is near so they can budget their time but, steer clear of strict time lines.
  • There are some lowlifes in hospice nursing sure but, I think overall they really tend to be a cut above.
  • Within 15 minutes of a patients death the other day one of her children was on the phone and I heard him say to someone,"Yes, yes- you can have her television." Good Lord, people -you should have some shame sometimes.
From the May 2014 car show in Weatherford. The world of customs is big enough for all of us I always say and I'll check bikes like this out when I go to shows or on the street even but yeah- pretty ridiculous.
  • Above from an old draft clean-up day. I haven't worked hospice in 3 years.
  • Draft came out, "raft" up there.
  • Every month or so there is some news report touting the benefits of having one glass of wine or one beer or half of  one of each... every day with stats of how people who do whatever it is they're touting live longer, have fewer heart attacks or their babies are born better looking... or whatever. Simply put- if a person can have the restraint to drink only one of something so dangerous, that makes you feel soooo good, they probably exercise lots of restraint and make lots of good choices in lots of other aspects of their lives- of course they'll tend to be healthier. They would nearly have to generally speaking be more healthy than other people

Its all in the details as they say.
  • E readers are one of man's very best inventions. I have 69 books stored on mine (less 25% of capacity) and routinely work at 2-3 books in a single sitting because it is so convenient to do so. As a bonus I only paid for one of the books- .99 cents.
  • People are shocked the 100 mil Zuckerberg donated to New Jerseys school was all spirited away to line the pockets of crooks and opportunists. I'm shocked they're shocked. He should have looked for successful programs whose only problem was insufficient funds. Very weird- very odd he/they missed that upon deciding to donate funds.

Wednesday's Digressions

I'm pretty sure this is the guy Don caught looking way more robust on his foray to SRF. Here, he is ready to stroke out in 90 degree heat and billion percent humidity.

  • Strangest headline I've seen in a while. Grandmother dies trying to stop sword fight. from AP on MSNBC
  • Learned I was recently mentioned by name at a funeral for my care of a hospice patient.
  • That and my parenting are two things I probably get way too much credit for.
New sandwich from Schlotski's. It looks like somebody plopped the contents of a school cafeterias garbage between 2 pieces of bread and called it good.
  • I have The Class Of Nukem High pulled up to watch.
  • Feel myself getting dumber already.
  • Quite a feat
  • Everybody needs a stormy day buddy.

Friday's Dispatch

  • While I'll admit I can get as cranky as anyone else, overall I'm pretty calm- often too much so for my own good I'm sometimes reminded but, few thing in this world could make me ##^&&%%$#! madder than the above. Crazy, makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

  • Baby played with the water hose and a spray nozzle by himself for the first time today and watered the yard real well while getting himself wet. I sat on the porch in my rocker and watched.

  • Contentment:" 1.the state of being contented; satisfaction; ease of mind.
2.Archaic. the act of making contentedly satisfied."

  • Not working as much as I'd like- will have to find something else if it doesn't pick back up.

  • Great thing about my profession.

  • I don't know what they think of it now but, there are a few nurses who went into nursing largely due to my influence although of course they had thought about it before on their own. I might have given that final push. There are few things that made me feel as good as seeing them out in their practice making a good living.

  • Going to buy new tools for a brake job on the turd bomb. Tired of trudging back and forth digging through stuff for tools I then don't find because they were lost long ago. This time I'm going to take care of them and keep them in one accessible spot.

  • Whatever.
  • My oldest patient now was 4 weeks short of 101 years old.
  • My youngest: 4 weeks short of 6 months.
