Mondays Missives

  • It seems the more benign the commenter or blog writer the more vicious the comments will be directed at them.

  • Yay I got my office back!

  • Well, sort of the baby as been sick so when I get up with him that's where we go and that's the only place the big kids can watch movies and use the internet.

  • Crap, it's worse than before.

  • I wish I had an office.

  • My oldest borrowed my laptop last night and this morning there was still a usb cable hanging off it- he must have pulled some of my music for his mp3 player.

  • That's cool.

  • Showed some of my pictures from The War to someone the other day: simply horrific I can say now but, I wonder most what it made her think about me personally.

  • I'm pretty sure nothing can change a person like war or prison but, I believe the consensus is the change can be positive or negative and that depends on the individual.

  • Laws and policies based on fear and misunderstanding really bother me and one example that comes to mind is the use of anabolic steroids. The words alone conjure images of roid rage, exploding hearts and damaged livers. The truth is millions of people in the US alone have used them without becoming violent. It is unclear how associative heart damage is to steroid use, there are ways to overcome the potential anyway and liver damage in users is always associated with oral use of extremely high doses. Also, most evidence against there use is anecdotal- no scientific studies (especially when first criminalised in the early nineties). During that time even the DEA and FDA were reluctant to pile on and testified against there criminalization.

  • My thinking was first challenged on that subject by guys I knew who were using them when I was working out- smart people who never murdered anybody, their hearts never exploded and heir livers never fell out in the shower. Also, there are two doctors local to me who I know will tell you off the record how to use them if you know them and ask.

  • Another bothersome aspect to this subject: when I worked out I got big quick- 18.5 inch biceps and as I recall 44 inch chest (Arnolds biceps were 22 inches for comparison) people would pull me aside and be really concerned I was using steriods and would hurt myself. Good grief.

Mondays Missives

  • It's cool to see comments here.

  • Thought today again about the fact I have no favorite color. In the past it's made me feel so weird I've tried to adopt one and claim it when asked- then I feel like a low down liar. I'm the only person I know who has no favorite color.

  • When I was kid we were so poor- how poor were we you ask? My favorite toy was a Ziploc bag of dirt.

  • I wish I were kidding.

  • I was reminded of a funny story last night about the time I was in the hospital. A homosexual patient care technician molested me by rubbing my genitals when he helped put those anti clot trousers on my legs when I came out of recovery from surgery.

  • No, I know that's really not funny but, I learned a lot from that experience and peoples reaction to my telling of it. I was as close to death as a person could be so in the scale of things as wrong as it may have been it was hard to get too worked up over it at the time.

  • I went to college with 2 sets of twins one stands out in my mind because one of them was a total plate head of a power lifter the other a total biology club geek. They must have both worked since birth to be so totally different. Oddly, I was friends with both and worked out with the jock. The other set was known for going to class for the other and dressing as the other and going out with each others new girlfriends.

  • Something tells me in the real world that one isn't as cute as they can make it in romantic comedies and is in fact probably pretty creepy.

  • Received an email: Doont be aganist gelatnig pleasure use Viagr Proo!

  • I don't know why anyone would be reluctant to supply credit card information and receive medical advice from such an obviously reputable source.
  • I saw a girl the other day who I used to work with I had not seen in years. She asked who I was to make sure then reminded me of who she was. I never would have recognized her, she was very hard looking and must have gained 200 pounds since I last saw her whereas the last time we were around each she was actually a young looking for her age cutey, very pretty, bright and a lot of fun. When she told me who she was I looked her up and down and said, "Really?" in a surprised tone with at least a shocked if not disgusted look on my face.
  • I call that little trick How to destroy another human being in 30 seconds or less.
  • I feel horrible about that incident, it was like a train or car wreck you have no control over and so your shocked, fumbled response shouldn't be held against you- right?
  • When I was stationed in Germany an older lady cornered me and started saying things like ,"Oh, you are so young looking and so pretty- not like the other soldiers. I feel so sorry for your mother. Where is your mother? My heart aches for her, come let me hug you and you must take my picture so you will remember."
  • I was out of film but, I acted like I snapped a pic or two and had a friend do the same with both she and I in the frame.
  • Lake Titicaca not only is it the highest navigable lake in the world-it's also the most fun place name to say!

Crazy Comments From Some Crazy Site

"Also, people, don't for a minute believe Track is destined to deploy to Iraq out of some divine intervention on the EXACT day the infidels attacked our nation...There is a deployment CEREMONY scheduled for Sept 11, in which his unit will be involved. It is very contrived and planned to evoke a weepy, patriotic response and to make Track look like a hero to for the republican cause...Anyone seeing it any other way needs to take the Pub-colored glasses off..."

"Good Luck Kid. Your mom just shipped you off to hell."

I know there are some things that should not even be dignified with a comment but, the first statement shocked me so much I have to ask, could anyone on this planet really be simple enough to think what they just proposed is even remotely possible? That deployment would have been been scheduled months before Palin knew she'd be nominated- before McCain even considered her for that matter and actually before that kid would know for certain he would be deployed. Yes, it was scheduled on that day for a "patriotic response" of the people being deployed.

The second statement? I know very little about that kid (Palins son Track) but, I'll guarantee you his time in Iraq will be remembered for the rest of his life as one of the most satisfying, thrilling, unforgettable and even fun times in his entire life.
