Pursuant to your post, I researched the cicadas, and was amazed to learn those suckers can live for up to 17 years as larvae, but once they change, their days are numbered. I see a few of them each year on one of my trees, but as a kid, our next door neighbor had willow trees that were just chock full of them. My master horticulturist co-worker confirms that they dig the willows.
