Monday's Missives

Bald eagles in a gangland rumble. This is the classic  murder stab to the face move. Like lots of things- we get it wrong about eagles. They are something like 10 times more likely to eat something already dead and rotten than snatch that iconic rainbow trout out of a lake with their claws while in majestic flight mode.

  • To be so highly regarded by show biz and the media and so well known she is in essence an icon there are fewer more vapid, vacuous and simply uninteresting people than Whoopi Goldberg.
  • Do not understand.
  • I simultaneously have the boat, motorcycle and RV fever. It is rough having a poor boy pocket book and a rich guy's imagination.
  • We get lots of things wrong: A year or two ago a big deal was made over a very effective and cheap incubator to be used to save babies lives in the Third World. A case study was provided for evidence of it's effectiveness by talking to a woman and her part time laborer husband. They had already lost I believe 5 children. She lost those babies because she could not afford to raise them and they were weak in an environment where they need to be strong to not only survive those crucial first 5 years they need to be healthy to reduce the strain on limited resources. I'm not being cold- it is a fact the area they live needs no more poor, sick, illiterate people and that mom didn't need another mouth to feed.
  • Interestingly, an incubator that is effective, cheap and portable might be praiseworthy in a more sustainable environment.
  • The patio door is open, waffles with coffee was on the menu,  and it is literally pouring while thundering and lightning and the cat is cautiously watching the deluge while looking back at me occasionally to make sure it is OK. It is dark and besides the thunder quiet. The solitude is fantastic. This may be (04/06/2014) a perfect morning.
  • See if you can pick me out in this video.
  • Take it away Ondar.

I'm don't understand why a lot of celebrities are famous. Whoopi Goldberg is one of them.

Every time I come cross someone like that, i assume it's just a function of my age. had I been watching TV and movies when "Sister Act" and "Jumping Jack Flash" and, um, "Boys on the Side" came out, maybe I'd think she was fantastic and inspiring.

And she did those fundraisers with Billy Crystal and Robin Williams.

Maybe that's the secret.

or maybe she has a really good agent.

Agree with you and the Kate-ster that WG is a mystery, albeit one about whom I am singularly incurious.

Herewith, my Shaefer beer budget wish list: A kayak (10-11 feet, with one large dry-storage), a Suzi V-strom or Kawi KLR-650, and a 5x9 teardrop trailer. Lyke Skynyrd says - nuthin' fancy.

Dear Kate- You know, I see your point but most of us back then didn't get it and were shaking our heads although I'll say Sister Act may have had it's moments.

D0n- Yes, I also don't really expend a lot of energy considering that subject- she is that proverbial icon so it has been thrust upon me.

There is a KLR 650 on C list with 5000 miles by the original owner. I don't remember the price but it seemed like for cheaps.
