One of my best friends from school (4th grade on) was in the first 64 cadet class open to non VN-era pilots @ Rucker. He mainly enjoyed the flying, but once he made Capt. (@ Ft. Hood) found he was getting less than 6 hrs a month, so in 1990 he transitioned out and joined the FBI.
