Monday's Missives

I was on the National Guard Chiefs Pee Wee football team when I was a kid. We got to keep our helmets as they upgraded for the next season.

  • When a guy gets accused of molesting children in a family- especially girl children and there are multiple people who make allegations against him but there is one child who happens to be the prettiest one of the bunch that is also his biggest defender- you can bet that the allegations are true.
  • He thought he could get away with it by leaving her alone- even if he never said it in his mind it was a case of, If I wouldn't molest her- the prettiest one of the bunch why would I molest any of the rest of them?
  •  Also, there is a perverted way in which he didn't want to taint her- he wanted to keep her pure.
  • That doesn't look sketchy at all...
  • Steroids are a literal miracle drug.
You frequently see wrecks along that stretch of road.
  • A one-time girlfriend sent me a text with a picture of her with some kind of Baltic Sea mud black facial beauty mask on. The text said," Come over and do me. "
  • It was hilarious. I kept it for a long time just to look back at it and laugh although I deleted it because I was terrified of it getting out into the wild.
  • If I had sent that out over the Internets how long before she got accused of putting on blackface, being a racist and got her house burned down and fired from her job?
  • My guess is all of that would happen within something less than 72 hours and I may be being very generous with that assessment and giving the Internets way more credit than it deserves.
Not great but OK for something different.

Friday's Dispatch

This was a balloon snowman that was made nearly a year ago last winter in an IHOP.

  • Sometimes after the work day I want to go home and stress-sleep to get the night over with so I can start the next day and just... get that days beating over with.
  • I would like to get at least a hundred and seventy thousand miles out of my present truck and it would not break my heart to go 200,000.
  • If I get 170K good miles out of it I will preemptively put a new transmission in it and rebuild the front end and then squeeze every mile I can out of it.
  • About 289000 miles is still my personal world's record for all time best miles on a vehicle.
  • That was a great car. It was a 1993? Suburban. Aside from being possibly slightly tired; it ran basically as good the day I sold it as the day I bought it.
  • The silver medal went to my Camaro which I think I got 270 something? thousand miles out of it.
  • It was knocking and smoking a little bit by then though. One of my ex wives was driving it by then. She called and told me that the engine started knocking on the way home. I asked her what she did for it. She replied, Well first thing I did was turn the stereo up. There was not hardly a drop of oil in it but yeah it would still run.
Laundry detergent bottles seem oddly way over built for their purpose.
  • It is definitely on my list to do some camping this fall.
  • My phones voice recognition has started working like a champ. It is eerie.
  • It has me all figured out. This I think is literally true as in- I just had to choose from the proferred alternatives when it just wasn't getting me the first say, 3 to 4 times. Then it started working like a champ.
  • It is August 23rd 2017 and so far- so bad for President Trumps presidency.
  • If I were a national level Republican politician if not terrified- I would be very aware of how quiet President Obama has been.

Thursday's Thoughts

  • Today at Dinosaur Valley State Park I took pictures of two different family groups for them.
  • Had a Burger King Burger today for the first time in a while. I had forgotten they put ketchup on their burgers! What kind of monster does that?
  • It was called the King Bacon Burger. It was pretty good but what was fantastic were the fries. They must have changed since I last had their fries.
  • The family we hiked with on the ranger guided at the hike in Dinosaur Valley Park were great people- they really were but they defined the expression of having no filter.
  • This morning 09/17/2017 I got wrapped up in reading stories about Stolen Valor after seeing a headline related to a local guy. The stories that jump out at me the hardest are the guys who had great real records and felt the need to embellish. I wouldn't want to switch places but 2 frauds I read about had real service records that made mine look weak.
  • I finally visited the creation evidence museum in Glen Rose. There was some legitimately interesting exhibits but multiple items that have been debunked and/or that simply do not mean what they think it means. There was an odd lack of context and insufficient information (or none) on many exhibits.

  • Back to the Stolen Valor subject one guy said something about busting somebody for faking being a soldier. His proof? The bustee couldn't tell him his basic training unit. When I went through basic for the Texas Army National Guard at Jackson I was in B 9/2. We were called Bravo Rangers. When I went regular Army I have no idea- literally none what OSUT unit I was in for my training- I could not even pick it out from a multiple choice list.
  • Connected thought: another said he busted somebody because the guy did not remember his commanding officers name. I remember my first COs name as I was his driver. I have no recall of my commanding officer's name during the war. Although sadly and maybe to my discredit- I do remember his derogatory nickname.
  • I need to find out his name- it is just not right to be able to truthfully say that last sentence.

Wednesday's Digressions

  • My nursing buddy said the F. word in front of me recently although she very rarely curses (that might have been the third time I heard her use bad language in the 5 years I have known her).
  • Oddly- it was kinda hot.
  • Interestingly-I swear my warm? response to her foul mouthed tirade caused her to break bad and say it again the very next day.
  • Some of my strongest childhood memories are of the Wise County Reunion.
  • We did our own family reunion there for a couple of years. It was great but interest dropped off and it quit happening.
  • At least 3 people off the top of my head who attended the first reunion we had there are dead now.
  • It has been months since I saw my sister.
  • The brother of a coworker was killed in a car wreck recently. She went to sleep having a younger brother. She awoke without one.
  • A friend whose mother died about the same time as mine and I were talking about what that loss meant to us. At the end she simply said, We are both orphans.
  • Beastie Boys Sabotage

Wednesday's Digressions

  • People often worry about the morals of musicians and actors. Other than actors or musicians whose act is geared toward kids- I can't comprehend that kind of thinking. My main problem I think is- where does it end?
  • Multiple of my favorite singers or members of a favorite band have had multiple marriages and divorces. A dude who did an old favorite song of mine is a convicted child molester. How many have drug or alcohol problems?
  • Does it matter at all? If so why?
  • If Trumps would have done what he said he would and focused on infrastructure he could have been remembered as a good president- in spite of himself.
  • Easily my favorite Six Million Dollar Man episode was the one where he fought a bigfoot.
  • Was the bigfoot in that story actually an alien- or am I making that up?
  • A weird assassination attempt.
  • Ray Mears shows are great.

Overheard as I walked out the door at a Dollar General store

Cuz- that just aint the way it works.

Because, one beer will always turn into 20-that's why.
